Online Poker Games
Online poker games are becoming more and more popular following a dramatic increase in the number of poker players around the world. It was estimated that the revenues coming from online poker games increased to $2.4 billion in 2005 from around $82 million in 2001.
The success of online poker games may be attributed to Poker Tournaments, especially the Texas Hold’em Tournaments such as the World Series of Poker that are televised worldwide. Most people who saw a televised poker tournament envy the sole winner of the jackpot and secretly wish that they could do the same but are not courageous enough to enter a televised tournament that they would resort to playing online.
Online poker games also become popular because they offer the player the option to stop anytime. Online poker games are also a lot cheaper to buy into because online venues have much smaller overhead costs than venues inside a real casino.
Nowadays, online poker games attract more and more players because they offer tournaments known as satellites in which winners of satellite tournaments gain entry to real-life and televised high-stakes poker tournaments.
The only disadvantage of playing online poker games is that because it is played in a virtual venue, players are not seated in front of each other which can allow a player to read the facial expressions of other players to determine a bluff and a real deal.
