History of Poker
Poker has seen a steady growth since the time it originated in the 1800s. Public interest in poker has increased very fast with the explosion of online games and specialty TV shows. In fact there are a number of individuals who got intrigued by poker through the TV shows like Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown or World Poker Tour.
It is thought that Chinese used to play a game similar to poker even before 969 A.D; the Emperor Mu-tsung is believed to have played the game with queen on the New Year eve. History of poker also suggests that in the times of Wild West period in the US, you could find poker tables in about every town. It is also known to be very popular during the Civil War among the soldiers.
The history of poker is very old and is believed to have grown over more than ten centuries from different types of games, with the basic principle of ranked card or domino combinations and bluffing to mislead other players.
Most of the poker enthusiasts consider that the betting system of poker differentiates it from other gambling games. It is only in the beginning that the game has compulsory bets, but after that players put money in the pot at their own free will.
